Oscar Verdeal

Oscar Verdeal is a Cuban born pianist, music promoter, and educator. As a pianist, he has obtained several prizes and recognitions, such as Grand Prize, First Prize and Prize for the best interpretation of Cuban music in the Amadeo Roldan Piano Competition of the City of Matanzas, First Prize for the best interpretation of Cuban music and special recognition in the Musicalia Contest sponsored by the University of Arts in Havana (Cuba), as well as the First Prize and Prize for the best interpretation of Cuban music organized by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). Verdeal also collaborated on the CD-DVD "Argeliers León" from the Colibrí Label, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Cubadisco International Fair.

As a soloist, he has been accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Matanzas, the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, the Symphony Orchestra of the Liceo Mozartiano de la Habana, and the Symphony Orchestra UJED in Mexico. He has also collaborated with the Texas Christian University Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony Orchestra, with which he participated in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention.

In addition, he has participated in different festivals: International Competition and Festival for Young Pianists in the Dominican Republic, International Festival of Contemporary Music of Havana, Mozart-Habana International Festival, Piano Texas International Academy and Festival, Austin International Chamber Music Festival, among others. He has performed in the most important concert halls in Cuba and different cities abroad. Some of the most important venues are the National Theater of Cuba and Teatro Auditorio Amadeo Roldán (City of Havana), Sala Dolores (Santiago de Cuba), National Theater of the Dominican Republic, Pepsico Recital Hall, Ed Landreth Concert Hall, Van Cliburn Concert Hall (Fort Worth, USA), Bates Recital Hall (Austin, USA), the Lila Cockrell Theater (San Antonio, USA), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona, Spain), etc.

As a cultural promoter and educator, Verdeal has collaborated with different institutions organizing concerts, workshops, and community activities bringing the joy of music to all kind of audiences in different settings beyond the concert halls. Some of them include the Martin Luther King Center and Ebenezer Church (Havana), Liceo Mozartiano de la Habana, UNICEF, Historian Office of Havana City,  PianoTexas International Festival (Fort Worth), Austin Chamber Music Festival, The Tradition Senior Living, and Stayton Senior Living in Fort Worth, among others.

He has worked as a professor in the Vocational School of Art of Matanzas, the Cuban National School of Arts, and the University of the Arts in Havana. He is also member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the Pi Kappa Lambda Society, Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA), and the American Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Oscar obtained Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music from the University of the Arts in Havana Cuba. As well as the Master's Degree in Piano Performance at Texas Christian University, where he is currently a doctoral candidate and serves as Student Teacher Assistant.

Oscar is very passionate about human development subjects, including yoga, mindfulness/meditation, and consciousness expansion.
