Enrico Elisi

Italian-born pianist Enrico Elisi, a laureate of the Oporto International Competition (Portugal) and the Premio Venezia (Italy), has earned international recognition for his performances across four continents.

Praised for his “mastery of elegance, refinement, and fantasy” (La Nueva España) and “remarkable sensitivity, imagination, and polish” (Baltimore Sun), he has given recitals throughout Europe at venues including the Bemberg Museum in Toulouse (France), Centro del Carmen in Valencia (Spain), the Dante Society in Bonn, Wolfsburg Castle, and Kiel Universität’s Bach-Saal (Germany), and the Cyril and Methodius Foundation in Piestany (Slovakia).

In his native Italy, he has appeared at historic venues including La Fenice Theatre (Venice); Dante’s Church, the Hall of the Five Hundred in the Medici-owned Palazzo Vecchio, and Sala del Buonumore (Florence); the Pavarotti-Freni Opera House (Modena); Bibiena Theatre and Palazzo Guerreri-Gonzaga (Mantua); Sala dei Giganti (Padua); Sala degli Ostaggi (Crema); Teatro Comunale, the Archaeological Museum, and Sala Bossi (Bologna); and Sant’Anna dei Lombardi Church (Naples).

Elisi has also performed in Japan, South Korea (IBK Hall, Seoul), China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Peru (Centro Cultural de España, Lima), and Canada (Banff Centre), and at notable venues in the United States, including the National Gallery of Art, the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC, the New York Public and Morgan Libraries, and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall. Recent engagements have included a solo recital at National Tsing Hua University’s Spring Arts Festival in Taiwan and a faculty recital at Bay PianoFest at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

As a soloist, Elisi has collaborated with the Florence Symphony (Italy), Orchestra Classica de Porto (Portugal), Jakarta Sinfonietta (Indonesia), Bay Atlantic Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, Williamsport Symphony, Pennsylvania Chamber, and Central Texas Philharmonic (USA).

Elisi has recorded works by Mozart and has been featured by Rádio e Televisão de Portugal and WPSU (USA), as well as radio stations including Montebeni Classica FM (Italy), WCLV Cleveland, UNC, KCNV Nevada Public Radio, and KGCS. Via Classica Radio featured him in a two-hour recital and interview broadcast from Hamburg (Germany).

An avid chamber musician, Elisi has collaborated with the New Orford String Quartet and principal players from the Baltimore, Chicago, and American Symphony Orchestras and worked with accomplished partners such as Federico Agostini.

Elisi has also developed an active piano-duo collaboration with pianist Mengyang Pan. The Elisi–Pan Piano Duo combines performance with teaching and international exchange through concerts and residencies in North America and Asia. Recent projects have included a residency at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, performances and teaching in South Korea, Indonesia, China, and Taiwan, and Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos with the China Conservatory Symphony Orchestra in Beijing.

His engagement with contemporary music has included performances of works by Fedele, Berio, and Sciarrino, including appearances in the presence of Salvatore Sciarrino at the University of Toronto New Music Festival. His premieres included solo and chamber compositions by Kye Ryung Park and Paul Chihara, who dedicated a piano composition to Elisi. Two Images by Chihara, featured on Albany Records, is among the recordings reflecting Elisi’s engagement with contemporary music. He has also recorded four works by Peruvian composer J. V. Grossmann, including the solo-piano work Angelus! and three works for voice and piano.

A frequent guest at music festivals worldwide, Elisi performed and conducted masterclasses at Cincinnati’s “Art of the Piano,” Interlochen Center for the Arts, Texas State, Bay PianoFest, RPPF, and the Chautauqua Institution in the USA; VIPA Valencia in Spain; Todi Music Masters, Conero Festival, and Amalfi Coast in Italy; Borromeo in Switzerland; The Thinking Pianist in England; the AcumoGlobal London Piano Festival & Academy; and the Ameri-China Foundation and Sichuan International Piano Festival in China. As a Yellow Barn Festival Artist-in-Residence, he performed an all-Bach recital and presented on ornamentation and articulation in selected dances. In 2026, he joined the AcumoGlobal London Piano Festival & Academy as Artist-Faculty and serves as an Artistic Advisor.

An experienced adjudicator, Elisi has served on numerous U.S. juries, including Peabody Yale Gordon, Manhattan School of Music Eisenberg-Fried Concerto, Semper Pro Musica at Baylor, Chautauqua Festival, Texas State International Piano Festival, San Francisco International, Dallas International, Murdock International, Weatherford College International, Spotlight International, Iowa, Thousand Islands International for Young People, and Fite Family Young Artists at Missouri State, as well as concerto competitions at PianoTexas, University of North Texas, and Southern Methodist University. In Canada, he has adjudicated the Canadian Music Competition National Finals, International Steppingstone, and Glenn Gould School Concerto Competition; internationally, the New Pacific Rim International Piano Festival and Competition in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the International Piano Professionals Association Competition in the United Kingdom, and Conero International Music Competition in Italy, where he also served as jury president for Nuova Coppa Pianisti d’Italia in Osimo and chair at the Palma d’Oro Piano Competition.

Dr. Elisi has developed two interactive workshop series for pianists, Effective Memorization Strategies for Pianists and Unlocking Musical Recall: Exploring Multisensory Testing for Pianists, which he has presented internationally at institutions including the Royal College of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo, Conservatorio Nicolini in Piacenza, Missouri State University, Texas State International Piano Festival, and institutions in Asia.

Elisi’s performance and masterclass activity has taken him to conservatories, universities, festivals, and academies across the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and South America, including the China Conservatory of Music, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, National Tsing Hua University, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Texas State International Piano Festival, and PianoTexas International Festival & Academy. He has also been a featured concert artist at state conferences of the Florida, Missouri, and Oklahoma Music Teachers Associations and at American Liszt Society Festivals at Northwestern University and the University of Georgia.

Dr. Elisi is Associate Professor and the Harold D. and Imogen Herndon Professor of Music at Texas Christian University. Throughout his teaching career, he has taught at the University of Toronto, where he received the Faculty of Music Teaching Award, as well as the Eastman School of Music, Penn State University, and UNLV. He was a visiting professor at Hanyang University and Ewha Womans University in South Korea. His students have received grants and prizes in national and international competitions and have gone on to faculty appointments at universities and music institutions in North America and Asia.

Elisi’s primary teachers include Leon Fleisher, Lazar Berman, Alexander Lonquich, Franco Scala, Boris Petrushansky, and Giuseppe Fricelli. He received invaluable mentorship from Boris Slutsky. His musical education began at the Conservatories of Bologna and Florence and continued at the International Piano Academy of Imola, the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and the Taos and Ravinia Festivals, where he studied chamber music with Robert McDonald, Menahem Pressler, Gilbert Kalish, and Claude Frank.

A U.S. citizen since 2012, Elisi is a Steinway Artist.
