Evelyn Shengxi Yang

With a deep musical sensitivity and maturity far beyond her age, 13-year-old pianist Evelyn Shengxi Yang was accepted to the Juilliard Pre-College at the age of 9 in Prof. Ernest Barretta’s studio. From an early age, Evelyn has constantly distinguished herself by winning first prizes in piano competitions, including the Grand Prize in the Crescendo International Piano Competition at the age of 6, Grand Absolute Platinum Medalist in the Trinity International Music Competition, First Prize in Chicago International Music Competition, First Prize in the International New Star Piano Competition, and Gold Medalist in the SIPF Virtuoso Artists Competition, etc. In addition, she was chosen as a winner at the 2023 Camerata Artists International Concerto Competition, the 2024 PianoTexas Festival’s Concerto Competition, and the 2024 Tianjin Juilliard Piano Festival Concerto Competition. 

As a featured soloist, Evelyn has performed piano concerti with the world-renowned Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Miguel Harth-Bedoya, QinXin Ensemble, Camerata New Jersey Orchestra, IPS Orchestra among others, at venues such as Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Tianjin Juilliard Concert Hall, Merkin Concert Hall in NYC, Tsai Performance Center in Boston, etc. Her recent solo appearances include concerts in prestigious venues such as Sheldonian Theatre at the University of Oxford, Carnegie Hall, Paul Hall, Morse Hall, Willson Theatre, PepsiCo Recital Hall at TCU, Ed Landreth Auditorium at TCU, and Armerding Center Concert Hall in Chicago etc. Her performance of the Beethoven Sonata in G Major, Op. 79 is also highlighted on Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and other online platforms. Moreover, Evelyn had her debut recital at Juilliard’s Paul Hall in 2024. Recently, Evelyn had the greatest honor of being invited and chosen to play a harpsichord as the youngest harpsichordist in the entire Juilliard school with the Juilliard Pre-College String Orchestra for Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor at Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Lincoln Center. She became the youngest member of the Juilliard Historical Performance program. 

Evelyn was highly selected to participate in the 44th PianoTexas International Festival & Academy (as a performer), the 2024 Tianjin Juilliard Piano Festival (with a merit scholarship), and the 2023 Chicago International Music Festival (as a merit scholarship performer). Additionally, she was invited to be publicly interviewed and was spotlighted by China Daily, Sina News, Sohu News, Tencent News, Pengpai News, and China Culture Institute. 

As an avid chamber musician, Evelyn enjoys collaborating with other musicians. She has been partnered with another rising star at Juilliard School Pre-College, award-winning young pianist Taige Wang for piano duets. She also plays chamber music in the Juilliard Pre-College Chamber Program. In addition, Evelyn is a versatile composer and conductor who takes composition lessons and conducts lessons at Juilliard. Besides piano, Evelyn plays cello and is the principal and sectional cellist of her school orchestra. 

Evelyn is also a passionate volunteer for community service. She is an active member of the Back to Bach Project for the young generation. Along with the Juilliard Pre-College Community Service program, she is a regular young community service visitor of Mother Cabrini Hospital. 

As a voracious learner who excels with a passion for all academic areas, Evelyn is currently an “A” student at the prestigious Dalton School in NYC. With an in-depth passion for literature, she has challenged herself by winning literature competitions, such as the Scholastic Scope’s U.S.A. National Writing Competition and the John Locke Global Competition, which led her to be invited to the awards ceremony and academic lectures at Oxford University. Evelyn is an enthusiastic student of History and Classics, and she is also the founder of her middle school History Club and Latin Club, which have become one of the most popular clubs in her middle school. 

Beyond these, Evelyn has been invited to be one of the three students in the entire Dalton school to participate in the “creating with one's hands” podcast, aiming to modernize the founder of the school Helen Parkhurst's radio sessions from 70 years ago. Recently, Evelyn’s writing statement was honored to be quoted and featured as an inspirational figure in the Junior Scholastic Magazine. Moreover, Evelyn also won the Gold medal and a summa cum laude certificate of the 2025 National Latin Examination. Besides literature, Evelyn is passionate about math and science. She has been chosen to be the captain of the GAIM (Girls' Adventure in Math) Competition Team for her school and is currently in the middle school math team and Dalton School’s Climate Change Project. 

Apart from music, Evelyn is also a part-time actress. In 2022, she was featured in and filmed the movie “Piano Prince”, which will be released soon. Evelyn’s greatest interests are photography, skiing, alpine hiking, traveling, and paragliding.
