Josephine Chow

Fifteen-year-old pianist Josephine Chow is currently a sophomore at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas. She began learning piano at the age of five and is currently a student of Alexander Malikov and Andrei Tycmbalistenko. Josephine finds joy and comfort in playing the piano, which she hopes to share with her audience.

Josephine is a prize winner of the 2024 TMTA Performance Contest, 2024 Spotlight International Piano Competition, 2024 Manhattan International Music Competition, and 2025 Juanita Miller Concerto Competition. She was also the Texas winner in the 2023-2024 MTNA Junior Piano Competition.

Josephine has participated in numerous piano festivals, such as PianoTexas, New Orleans Piano Institute, Texas State International Piano Festival, and the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival. She has had the opportunity to learn from world renowned pianists such as Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Angela Cheng, Michelle Cann, Alan Chow, and Tamas Ungar.

At the age of 13, she made her orchestral debut performing Grieg's Piano Concerto with the Las Colinas Symphony, conducted by Geoffrey Simon. She subsequently performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Starlight Symphony, having been awarded first place in their 2024 Young Artist Competition. In March, she also performed with the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra as the recipient of their 2025 Young Artist Competition.

In an effort to give back to her community, Josephine frequently performs at senior living homes and fundraising concerts for the Food Lounge in Austin, an organization that helps those struggling with food insecurity. She was also the accompanist for the Long Yin Choir, which promotes Chinese culture through music in the Austin area.

Outside of piano, Josephine enjoys watching k-dramas, baking, and spending time with her family.
