Zhuoyan Zhang, born into a musical family, began learning piano at a young age under the influence of a rich musical environment. In 2021, he was admitted with outstanding academic performance to the Piano Department of the Affiliated Middle School of China Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Professor Zhang Wei.
In 2019, he won the Gold Medal (First Place) in the Youth Category at the Huanglong Music Festival Piano Competition. He also participated in masterclasses taught by renowned professors such as Peng Shengjin, Liu Mengjie, Vaskresenskiy, and Martin Hughes.
In August 2022, he collaborated with conductor Zhou Xiaoping and the Hefei Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor at the Anhui Grand Theatre.
In 2023, Zhang was selected for the "Top Talent" Training Program at China Conservatory of Music. In July, he secured 6th Place in the Professional Youth Category at the Xiamen International Piano Open Competition. In August, he participated in the Tianjin Juilliard Piano Festival. In October, he won 7th Place at the Pearl River·Kayserburg International Youth Piano Competition, and in November, he claimed First Place in Professional Group A (Beijing Division) at the Steinway National Youth Piano Competition, along with an Excellence Award at the national finals.
During 2023, he had the privilege of attending masterclasses with distinguished figures such as Professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń (Chair of the Jury of the Chopin International Piano Competition), Professor Kevin Kenner (Chopin Competition Jury Member), Polish pianist Wojciech Świtała, and Sofya Gulyak (Leeds Piano Competition Gold Medalist).
In 2024, he participated in the Piano Art Teacher Education Conference and performed at the National Conservatory Affiliated Schools Outstanding Students Concert. In May, he advanced to the Final Round of the 4th China Music "Little Golden Bell" Piano Competition and won First Place in Professional Group B at the Brahms International Piano Competition (China Division). In July, he held a solo recital at China Conservatory of Music. At the Xiamen Music Season Piano Competition, he received the Final Honor Award and performed Chopin’s First Piano Concerto with the Xiamen Song and Dance Orchestra under conductor Bian Sicong. In August, he attended the Colorado Piano Festival and earned First Place in Group A3. In September, he placed 4th at the 30th Austria Brahms International Music Competition.
In 2025, he was selected for the Piano Texas Festival (USA) and secured a main competition qualification at the Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition (Japan), standing out among 324 competitors from 22 countries to advance to the official rounds.
