Andrew Petrescu

Andrew Petrescu is a 15-year-old pianist and is currently under the tutelage of Andrey Ponochevny. His love for classical music grew over the years as he discovered new facets of classical music. He is not only interested in playing classical music but also in learning about music history. He is always looking forward to improving his technical skills to express different emotions through the piano keyboard.

Over the course of years, he has won several awards, including Honorable Mention at the 2022 International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival, 2nd prize at the 2023 Dallas Symphonic Festival in the Intermediate Concerto Competition group, 2nd prize at the 2024 Dallas Symphonic Festival in the Junior Concerto Competition group, 1st prize at the 2024 North Texas Young Artist Piano Competition in his category, 1st prize at the 2024 Oberlin Piano Festival Competition, and 1st prize at the 2025 Dallas Symphonic Festival in the Junior Concerto Competition group.

Andrew has attended festivals such as the 2022 International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival, the 2023 University of Dallas Summer Music Program, the 2023 New Orleans Piano Institute, the 2024 Piano Texas International Festival and Academy, and the 2024 Oberlin Piano Festival. He has also had masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Ju-eun Lee, Tatiana Dorokhova, Angela Cheng, and Igal Kesselman.

When not at the piano, Andrew is listening to classical music, swimming, and hanging out with his friends and family. He continues to pursue his dream of being a pianist through daily practice and not giving up in the face of obstacles.
