Evelyn Shengxi Yang

With a deep musical sensitivity and maturity far beyond her age, 14-year-old pianist Evelyn Shengxi Yang was accepted into the Juilliard Pre-College at the age of nine in the studio of Prof. Ernest Barretta. From an early age, she has distinguished herself with top prizes at international competitions. Recently, Evelyn was invited to participate in the 2026 Cleveland Piano Institute for Young Artists.

As a soloist, Evelyn has performed concerti with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under Miguel Harth-Bedoya, the QinXin Ensemble, Camerata New Jersey Orchestra, and the IPS Orchestra, among others. She has appeared at major venues including Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Tianjin Juilliard ConcertHall, Merkin Concert Hall (NYC), and Tsai Performance Center (Boston). Her recent solo performances include concerts at the Sheldonian Theatre (University of Oxford), Carnegie Hall, Paul Hall, Morse Hall, Willson Theatre, PepsiCo Recital Hall (TCU), Ed Landreth Auditorium (TCU), and the Armerding Center Concert Hall (Chicago). Her recording of Beethoven’s Sonata in G Major, Op. 79 is available on Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and other platforms. In 2024, she gave her debut recital at Juilliard’s Paul Hall. That same year, she was honored as the youngest harpsichordist in Juilliard’s history, performing Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor with the Juilliard Pre-College String Orchestra at Peter Jay Sharp Theater, Lincoln Center, andbecame the youngest member of the Juilliard Historical Performance Program.

Her artistry has been recognized on national and international media platforms. She has recently been named a National Awards Winner for the Scholastic Art and Writing awards for poetry, and she was selected as the first fellow in program history featured in a video episode of NPR’s From the Top and PBS television programs. In the meantime, she was also selected as the first Juilliard Pre-College representative for an Instagram takeover, where she shared a day in her life at Juilliard. She has also been interviewed and featured in major outlets, including China Daily, Sina News, Sohu News, Tencent News, Pengpai News, and the China Culture Institute.

An avid chamber musician, Evelyn collaborates regularly with fellow rising pianists, including award-winning Juilliard Pre-College pianist Taige Wang. She performs in the Juilliard Pre-College Chamber Music Program and also studies composition and conducting at Juilliard.

Evelyn is deeply committed to community service. She serves as a Regional Director of the Back to BACH Project, inspiring the next generation through music outreach. Through the Juilliard Pre-College Community Service Program, she regularly performs at Mother Cabrini Hospital, bringing comfort to children and young adults with extraordinary medical needs. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award.

A passionate scholar, Evelyn is an“A” student at the Dalton School in New York City. With a love for literature, she has won prestigious competitions, including the Scholastic Scope U.S. National Writing Competition and the John Locke Global Essay Competition, which earned her an invitation to the awards ceremony and academic lectures at Oxford University. She is the founder of her school’s History Club and Latin Club, both of which have become among the most popular clubs on campus. Evelyn’s writing was recently quoted in Junior Scholastic Magazine, and she earned a Gold Medal with summa cum laude distinction on the 2025 National Latin Examination. She also leads her school’s GAIM (Girls’ Adventure in Math) Competition Team, participates on the middle school math team, and contributes to the Dalton Climate Change Project. In addition, she was chosen as one of only three Dalton students to participate in the “Creating with One’s Hands” podcast, a modern revival of the founder Helen Parkhurst’s radio sessions from 70 years ago.

Outside of academics and music, Evelyn was cast in the upcoming film Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum (2022) and continues to explore her creative side as a part-time actress. Her personal passions include photography, skiing, alpine hiking, traveling, and paragliding, pursuits through which she experiences the power and beauty of the world.
