Munan Cheng

Munan Cheng, age fourteen, attends Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California. She started playing piano at age four and currently studies with Dr. Sharon Mann. Her previous teachers include Professor Hans Boepple, Ms. Lena Grozman and Dr. Natalya Lundtvedt. Munan was the winner of the 2020 Princeton Festival Piano Competition, Junior Division. She was the state winner of California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) Honors Competition and winner of United States International Competition. She was also a top prize winner of San Jose International Piano Competition, Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition, MTAC Northern California Solo Competition, Pacific Musical Society Competition, and San Francisco Chopin Competition. She won several categories in the US Open Music Competition and was awarded as an outstanding gold medalist. Munan attended the 2020 SJIPC Summer Workshop. She also attended Todi International Music Masters and John Perry Academy of Music summer festival. Munan loves both solo and chamber music. She attended Music at Menlo Chamber Music Festival and Institute in 2017 and 2018. She was the pianist for the VCS Junior High Chamber Ensemble for three years. Her school chamber ensemble won the highest award in Association of Christian Schools International music audition two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019 (did not attend in 2020). She currently participates in her chamber group at the Crowden Music Center. Munan has had the honor to participate in masterclasses and lessons with John Perry, Gilbert Kalish, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Eduardo Delgado, Alan Choi, Baruch Meir, Dmitry Rachmanov, Robert Hamilton, and Chun-chieh Yen. Munan was invited to play for Steinway Society and Channing House Senior Centers for several times. She also played for several fundraising concerts, libraries etc. Munan enjoys reading, math, photography, and playing with her dogs.
