
Mariya Kim is a concert pianist and prizewinner of numerous major international competitions. Her artistic career spans Europe, Asia and the United States, combining concert activity, regular appearances at leading international venues, and an active presence in higher music education.
Born into a musical family of a conductor and a pianist, she received her first piano lessons at the Music School in Sevastopol, studying initially with Valeria Romanenko and later with Tatiana Kim. From 1998 to 2011, she studied at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Prof. Vladimir Krainev. Between 2009 and 2011, she also studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under Prof. Piotr Paleczny.
She has received First Prizes and top distinctions at numerous international piano competitions, including the International Piano Competition “In Memory of Vladimir Horowitz”, the “Piano Campus” International Piano Competition (France), the VI International Paderewski Piano Competition (Poland), the Concorso Internazionale Pianistico “Scriabin” (Italy), the International Piano Competition “Maria Callas Grand Prix” (Greece), the Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition (China), the XVII Concorso Internazionale per Pianoforte e Orchestra Città di Cantù (Italy), the 4th Seoul International Music Competition (Korea), and the José Iturbi International Music Competition (USA). She is also a prizewinner of the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano.
Her performances have taken place in major concert halls including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, the Seoul Arts Center, and Megaron Athens Concert Hall. She has appeared at international festivals such as the Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój, the Annecy Festival, the IKIF Festival in New York, and the Euregio Music Festival.
As a concerto soloist, she has performed with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Baltica, the W. Lutosławski Philharmonic in Wrocław, the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz, and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Her debut recording, released by Naxos and devoted to works by Robert Schumann, marked the beginning of her collaboration with the label. She has also made numerous radio and television recordings and was a scholarship recipient of the European Yamaha Foundation.
Alongside her performance activity, Mariya Kim holds the position of Acting Professor of Piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and is a member of the piano faculty at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar. She is regularly invited to serve as a jury member at international piano competitions.
