Susan Groves holds a BM, MM and DMA in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin where she studied with Danielle Martin, William Race and Nancy Garrett. She has been a prizewinner in numerous competitions including the Jeunesses Musicales Competition and the International Piano Recording Competition. was a soloist with the Austin Symphony at age 12 and also appeared with the Ft. Worth and University of Texas Symphony Orchestras. With her father, UT piano professor William Race, she performed concerts in the US and China as part of the Race-Groves Duo. Dr. Groves has an award winning private studio in Austin where she has been named Outstanding Pre-Collegiate Teacher of the Year 4 times, including 2020-21 and 2021-22. Her students have won national and international competitions, been featured on NPR’s From the Top, and received piano degrees from Juilliard, among other institutions. Susan enjoys reading, word games, her cat Chester and her Australian labradoodle puppy Lucy.
