Hkun Tun

Hkun Tun was born in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). He attended medical school and then migrated to the United States in 2001. He is practicing as an Internist/Hospitalist. He also loves reading and travel but his main passion is playing piano which he found out accidentally as a teenager. He was a junior swimming champion but was unable to swim for a year when the Military Government killed thousands of protesters and shut down schools, and even swimming pools for years in 1988. He started to learn piano with Andrew Kong and learned classical music off and on for about 2 ½ years. But it was quite difficult to improve classical piano playing due to lack of resources. He decided to go to Medical School instead. After buying a piano in 2016, he started to play again. First, he tried to learn himself at home by watching archives of great pianists on Youtube. He was selected for 2017 Piano Texas Festival as a performer and had a chance to meet fellow piano enthusiasts and was able to take lessons from Adam Wodnicki until Covid restriction halted piano education last year. Recently, he is taking online piano lesson with Stefan Chaplikov. He also participated in masterclasses/lessons with professors Harold Martina, John Owings, Andrey Ponochevny, Igor Resnianski and Tamas Ungar.
