Joel Goodman

Joel Goodman, born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles, has lived in Dallas for 39 years. He has been on the faculty of UT Southwestern Medical School since 1982. His professional life is split among directing an NIH-sponsored research program to understand fat storage in cells, teaching medical and PhD students, and running the outreach office of the university to secondary school science. Piano-wise, Joel began playing as a young child, studied in grade school with Paul Schoop (who loved to bring Joel wind-up toys), and after college, with Mario Feninger, both in Los Angeles. He took lessons again from 1999 to 2020 with Adam Wodnicki. Joel and his wife Bobbi gave several duo-piano recitals in Dallas in the 1980s and 1990s. In more recent years Joel competed in the Van Cliburn and Berlin amateur piano competitions, and he has attended Piano Texas more times than he can count. Joel likes to travel, ride his bike, collect coins, and tries each year to get through the NY Times ten best books. Because of COVID, he easily reached this goal in 2020.
