Jun Shimada

Born in Tokyo, Jun Shimada entered The Juilliard Pre-College Division in New York in 2017, and will pursue his Bachelor's degree under the guidance of Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone at The Juilliard School from this August.

Jun achieved top prizes in many competitions, including first prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT in 2023. He was the winner of Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition in 2018 and 2023, and Juilliard Pre-College Nordmann and Bachauer Piano Competition in 2023, awarded Nordmann Prize, for which he received full scholarship. As the winner of the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition, he performed Rachmaninoff’s The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43 with the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra led by Adam Glaser in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in 2024.

Jun has been a recipient of grants from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan, a fellow of the Japan-US Friendship Commission’s Exchange Friendship Program in the Arts, a recipient of the US Chopin Foundation, and a young artist of Artemisia Akademie.

As an avid learner, Jun has participated in the various music festivals, such as the International Summer Academy at Mozarteum, Aspen Music Festival, Piano Academy Eppan, the Chicago International Music Festival, and PianoTexas.
