Mikkel Berg-Eriksen

Mikkel Berg-Eriksen is among the most talented and promising young musicians in Norway. The aspiring concert-pianist and composer (b. 2002), was born and raised in Oslo. With both parents being musicians, he was surrounded by music from a very early age. However, he only began playing the piano at the age of eleven, though from there, his progress was swift. The following year, he was admitted to the talent-program 'Musikk på Majorstuen,' organized by the Barrat Due Institute of Music. There, he studied under Kristin Fyrrand Mikkelsen. He continued his education at the Edvard Munch Highschool in Oslo, where he studied under Kari Kvernberg Dajani.

During this time, he actively participated in several talent- and mentoringprograms for young pianists in Norway: the talent-program (TUP) at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he was studying under Professor Einar Henning Smebye, the Center for Talent-Development’s piano-program, where he was guided by some of the country’s leading pianists and teachers, and the Jiri Hlinka Piano Academy's talent-program, where he has been given masterclasses and mentoring from renowned Norwegian pianists such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Håvard Gimse, and Christian Ihle Hadland. He has also received masterclasses from the likes of Paul Lewis, Jan Lisiecki, Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, Håkon Austbø and Marianna Shirinyan. Through these programs and other means, he has been given the opportunity to perform across all of Norway in many of its most prestigious halls and festivals.

He has also received several awards, including the first prize in the Midgard Piano Competition, and recently, the first prize, and the title «Musician of the Year», in the national youth music-championship 2025 in Norway, where he, among other things, was awarded a debut with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

Mikkel is also an avid composer, and despite his young age, he has made considerable progress in building his repertoire, and several of his works have been performed professionally. A particularly significant moment was when the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra premiered his piece 'Visjon' during the SATS project, organized by Barratt Due. This allowed him to collaborate with the orchestra, conducted by Christian Eggen, and receive guidance from composer Bjørn Morten Christophersen. He seeks to continue having composing as an integral part of his creative output, and actively including it in his own concert-repertoire.

Mikkel Berg-Eriksen is currently pursuing his Bachelor's degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music, studying under Professor Christopher Park.
