Born in Milano into a Chinese family in 2007, Monica captures the attention of the classical world after winning many international piano competitions, praised for her deeply musical soul, utter naturalness and extraordinary technique.
Monica has been named Artist in Residence of Fondazione La Società dei Concerti in Milano. Winner of more than 30 national and international competitions, among which the Livorno International Piano Competition, Scriabin International Piano Competition Junior, Euregio Piano Award, Sergio Fiorentino Piano Competition, Prix du Piano Bern, she represented Italy at the 19th International Steinway Festival in Hamburg, after winning the Italian Steinway Competition with unanimity.
She has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras and is regularly invited to perform for important festivals in Germany, Italy, Iceland, Austria, France, Switzerland, Spain, England, Saudi Arabia, Marocco, Russia, in prestigious halls such as Sala Verdi in Milano, Gustav Mahler Saal, Teatro Olimpico, Teatro Sociale in Como, Boesendorfer Salon in the Musikverein in Vienna, Ridotto of Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Teatro Goldoni, Teatro Verdi in Pisa. She has been invited many times by the Bocelli Foundation and had the honor to perform in front of the President of Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.
She has been guest of the Italian TV program “Prodigi”, a talent competition of young musicians and dancers and has won the prize as best musician of the show. In 2023 she performed for the inauguration of the first Flagship Store Steinway & Sons in Italy. In 2024 Monica stepped in at a short notice the 2022 Cliburn Gold Medalist Yunchan Lim in Sala Verdi in Milano’s Conservatory: “Zhang played the famous Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky with great balance, warmth and accuracy like a mature artist” observed the critics.
She performed, in 2023 and 2024, for Maestro Evgeny Kissin who praised Monica for her talent.
Monica started her musical journey at 8. She is now a student of Cristina Frosini at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milano and follows the courses of Lilya Zilberstein in Accademia Chigiana in Siena. She has been selected as student of Eppan Piano Academy, studying with Michel Beróff, Andrea Bonatta and Janina Fialkowska, and has been invited by the Stauffer Academy in Cremona to follow the chamber music masterclasses with Enrico Pace.
She is supported by the Theo Lieven Foundation in Vienna and received private guidance from world renowned professors such as Alexei Volodin, Claudio Martinez Mehner, Robert Levin, Arie Vardi, HaeSun Paik.
In September 2024 label Da Vinci Classics released her debut CD, dedicated to Chopin Liszt and Sollini.
