Born in China in 2007, Xuanxiang Wu began playing the piano when he was 5 years old. At the age of 9, he was admitted to the Music Middle School Affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied with Prof. Ting Zhong. Since September 2021, he has been studying with Dr. Ernest Barretta at the Juilliard Pre-College. This August, he will attend The Juilliard School, where he' ll pursue a bachelor' s degree with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky.
He has performed in Carnegie Hall, St. Petersburg State Capella Concert Hall, America's National Opera Center, Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center and other prestigious venues. He has performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, New York International Youth Philharmonic, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, New York Session Symphony, The Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra, among others.
He recently won the First Prize and Audience Prize in New York Liszt International Piano Competition, and performed Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 at the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage of Carnegie Hall with the Orchestra of St. Luke' s. Also, he became a Young Steinway Artist.
His many honours include the Overall Winner in the Philadelphia International Music Festival Winter Concerto Competition, and he was interviewed by CBS News, FOX 5 New York, The Queens Ledger and the World Daily. He also won the First Prize and Classical Prize of Young Artist Group in the Canada International Piano Competition, as well as the top prize at the St. Petersburg International Music Competition, GOCAA International Piano Competition, 2019 Lang Lang Shenzhen Futian International Piano Competition, New York International Music Competition, and many others.
Outside of the piano, he enjoys painting, reading, LEGOs, movies, badminton, his cat Feifei, and his dog Carrot. He is also fascinated with marine life, spending time on seawater tank landscaping, and observing and studying various organisms.
