
Donghwi Kang (b. 2008, South Korea) is a pianist currently studying at the New England Conservatory as an Early Admission scholarship student under Professor HaeSun Paik. He graduated from Yewon School, one of Korea’s premier arts schools, where he was admitted as the top-ranked student and received a scholarship.
He gained recognition after winning the Grand Prize at the Korea Steinway Piano Competition and, the following year, earning Second Prize at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. In the same year, at the age of 15, he became the youngest pianist invited to the Isang Yun International Piano Competition (2023).
After several early solo appearances, he made his official debut at the Kumho Prodigy Concert in 2023 and was subsequently selected to perform in the Kumho Prodigy Opening Concert in 2024, opening the season as one of the program’s representative young artists. He has also given a recital at the DMZ International Music Festival Honors Concert and has appeared as a soloist with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra and the Korean Chamber Orchestra.
Recently, he was featured in the Scarlatti Sonata Series at the New England Conservatory, performing at Jordan Hall, and, as the winner of the Piano Honors Competition, performed at the “Piano Honors Concert: America250.”
