Andrew Petrescu is a 15-year-old pianist and a student of Andrey Ponochevny. He started to learn piano at the age of six. His love for classical music grew over the years as he discovered new facets of classical music. He is not only interested in playing classical music but is also fascinated about music history. He is always looking forward to improving his technical skills and learning to express different emotions through the piano keyboard.
In April, 2022, he won 2nd prize at the Frisco Music Teachers Association’s Trophy competition in Frisco, TX. Later that year, he participated in the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival in Fort Collins, CO, and was awarded Honorable Mention for his performance. After the festival, Andrew was more motivated to improve his skills for performing classical music. His hard work earned him 2nd prize at the Dallas Symphonic Festival in the Intermediate Concerto Competition group in January, 2023. In June, 2023, Andrew was awarded a scholarship at the University of Dallas Summer Music Program that deepened his connections with young musicians from the DFW area. He was selected as a finalist at the Nashville Chopin International Piano Competition in Nashville, TN in October, 2023. In January 2024, he won 2nd prize at the Dallas Symphonic Festival in the Junior Concerto Competition group, and in April 2024, he won 1st prize at the North Texas Young Artist Piano Competition in his category.
In his free time, Andrew enjoys listening to classical music and learning from various musicians. He continues to pursue his dream of being a pianist through daily practice and not giving up in the face of obstacles.
