Josephine Chow is a 14-year-old from Austin, Texas. She is a freshman at Westwood High School. Josephine started learning piano from age 5 and is currently a student of Alexander Malikov. She loves playing the piano because it brings joy and comfort to herself and her audience.
Some of Josephine’s achievements include 1st place at the 2022 Steinway Piano Concerto Competition (Austin) and the 2021 Chopin Youth International Piano Competition (Houston). She is also the 2023-2024 Texas winner in MTNA Junior Piano Competition.
Josephine has participated in numerous piano festivals, including PianoTexas, New Orleans Piano Institute, Texas State Piano Festival, and the International Keyboard Odyssiad Festival. Through private lessons and masterclasses, she has had the opportunity to learn from distinguished pianists such as Yoheved Kaplinsky, Pascal Nemirovski, Alan Chow, Marina Lomazov, Hung Kuan Chen, and Tamas Ungar.
Josephine made her orchestral debut in June 2022, performing the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Las Colinas Symphony under the baton of Geoffrey Simon. As a winner of the 2024 Starlight Symphony Young Artist Competition, she recently performed the first movement of Beethoven Concerto No. 3 with the orchestra.
In an effort to give back to her community, Josephine frequently performs in senior living homes and fundraising concerts for the Food Lounge in Austin, a non-profit organization that supports those who struggle with food insecurity. She is also the accompanist for Long Yin Choir, an Austin Chinese community choir that is dedicated to sharing Chinese culture through music.
Besides piano, Josephine enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, and reading.
