Joel Goodman became Professor Emeritus at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (Dallas) in September 2023. He directed a research program there in assembly of cellular organelles for 41 years, taught MD and PhD students, and ran the outreach office for high school science. He currently is a part-time research collaborator, teacher, and participant in committees in graduate education. Joel has played the piano since a young boy. He minored in music in college (at UCSD), taking classes from Rosalyn Tureck, Bertram Turetzky, Pauline Oliveros, and others. In the 1980s and 1990s he gave several recitals with his late wife, Roberta Goodman. In the past 25 years he has played in the Berlin Amateur Competition and in three Cliburn Amateur Competitions, and has participated in Piano Texas for more than 20 years, including 3 performances with the Ft Worth Symphony. Joel has been a member of the DFW Amateur Pianists since 2000, Besides the piano, Joel enjoys reading, attending concerts, collecting coins, traveling, and hanging out with other amateur pianists.
