Heesun Joyce Rogers

Heesun Joyce Rogers

Heesun Joyce Rogers began playing piano at age 6 in South Korea and participated in youth piano competitions. As a junior high school student, I played Beethoven Sonata No. 23, Op. 57 Appassionata at the national piano competition and won the grand prize. I went on to attend medical school in South Korea, where I received my medical degree and Ph.D.  Shortly after moving to Cleveland, OH for further my medical career, I rekindled my passion for piano after discovering the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) and the Cleveland Orchestra.  However, I focused on resident training and becoming a board certified physician in the USA. I joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2010 as a staff pathologist with a subspecialty in hematopathology and am an Associate Professor of Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.

As an amateur pianist, I have enjoyed playing for friends and family, and performed solo or with small chamber ensembles in the Cleveland area and South Korea.  My invited recital in 2023 was memorable to play for employees and the first event played by a physician at the Cleveland Clinic. The repertoire included Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 (I. Allegro Maestoso) accompanied by a professional string quintet. With my children now grown, I have spent more time practicing for musical growth and performing as opportunities become available. I have taken lessons from Sergei Babayan in the past and recently Shuai Wang at the CIM and Haewon Song at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In recent years, I have been selected as a participant in prestigious international amateur competition, concerto and music festival events. Beside music, I am an avid traveler—having visited 18 countries across four continents.
