Dr. Qi Wang received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and cur-rently serves as an assistant professor in the Aerospace Engineering department at San Diego State University. Dr. Wang is also an accomplished amateur pianist, earning a gold medal in the Seattle International Piano Competition in 2019.
Dr. Qi Wang, while majoring in Aerospace Engineering, has pursued a passion for piano since the age of seven. He embarked on his musical journey primarily through self-teaching before college. During his undergraduate studies in theoretical mechanics at Peking University, Dr. Wang’s insight into piano pedagogy led him to become the head of the piano association. Throughout his doctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Wang continued to engage in various music events, festivals, and competitions, and received private lessons from Marian Hahn at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. His dedication and talent culminated in winning the gold medal in the 2019 Seattle International Piano Competition (Outstanding Amateurs). Currently, Dr. Wang balances his career as an assistant professor at San Diego State University with his passion for music.
• April 2022: Dr. Wang performed the second Double Piano Suite by Rachmaninoff at the Faculty concert with Lesi Mei at San Diego State University.
• April 2023: Dr. Wang showcased his talent by performing the Symphonic Dances by Rachmani-noff at the Faculty concert with Lesi Mei at San Diego State University.
