Fourteen-year-old pianist Anwen Deng, hailing from Brisbane, Australia, embarked on her musical journey at the age of three. Recognized for her talent, she was accepted into the Juilliard School pre-college program at the age of six, becoming the youngest piano student ever accepted into Juilliard’s Pre-College, under the tutelage of Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky.
Anwen is the recipient of top prizes in numerous piano competitions, including first prize in the 26th Chopin International Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia, Poland, the Grand Prize in the 9th Chopin International Piano Competition Hartford, first prize in the 2018 Steinway & Sons Piano Competition, and first prize in the 2022 Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Young Artists’ Competition. Anwen has been featured on 7News, ABC’s documentary program “Making Child Prodigy”, and NBC’s show “Little Big Shots”, among others, for her talent beyond her years. At the age of ten, Anwen was invited to perform with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, the Little Orchestra Society of New York, and the Aspen Chamber Symphony under the baton of Arie Vardi.
Beyond her virtuosity as a pianist, Anwen’s passion for music extends to composition. With over fifty original pieces to her credit, including nocturnes, sonatas, ballades, etudes, waltzes, a violin suite, a string quartet, a symphony, a piano trio, and a woodwind quartet, Anwen continues to push the boundaries of musical expression, showcasing her creativity and versatility as a musician. Aside from music, Anwen also enjoys singing, writing, drawing, calligraphy, and sailing.
