Boris Uzunov

Boris Uzunov, born on February 19th, 2001, in Sofia, Bulgaria, is a gifted young pianist currently pursuing his Masters degree in piano performance at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the mentorship of Piet Kuijken. His musical journey commenced at the National School of Music in Sofia under Mariana Shikova's tutelage. Further enriching his skills, Boris received guidance from the esteemed Bulgarian pianist Ludmil Angelov at the New Bulgarian University's young talents program. Throughout his academic journey, Boris has earned laurels in various prestigious piano competitions, including the Concerto Competition YASP at Curtis, BMC Piano Competition in North Carolina, the 8th International Piano Competition "Liszt and Bartok," 28th International Competition "Flame" in Paris, 4th International Competition "Cesar Franck" in Brussels Belgium, the 5th International Competition "New Pianists” among others.

Upon completing high school in 2020, Boris was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, studying under the renowned Belgian pianist Prof. Piet Kuijken. Despite challenges that students faced at that time, Boris remained actively engaged, participating in masterclasses, workshops, and earning recognition as a finalist in competitions like the 2022 Stephane De Jonghe Piano Competition and 2023 EPTA International Piano Competition.

Acknowledging his work ethic, Boris has been awarded scholarships to attend various music festivals, including the Colorado College Summer Music Festival in 2022, the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina, USA, in 2018, the Young Artist Summer Program at Curtis in Philadelphia, USA in 2019, Quartet Intensive in 2021, 2022 and 2023, the International Summer Academy in Bulgaria in 2015 with Principal Teacher Dmitri Ratser, and 2017 with Principal Teacher Katarzyna Popowa Zydron.

In 2023, Boris earned his Bachelor’s degree and delved into period instruments, participating in workshops and masterclasses to deepen his understanding. His dedication led him to explore pianoforte, culminating in his decision to formally study it this academic year, again under Prof. Kuijken's guidance.
