Jun Shumida is a Tokyo-born pianist who has been studying with Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone at The Juilliard Pre-College Division since 2017. Jun has been a young artist of Artemisia Akademie in NYC, a fellow of the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission’s 2023-24 Exchange Friendship Program in the Arts, and a recipient of grants from Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.
Jun’s recent competitions wins include the 2023 Juilliard Pre-College Nordmann and Bachauer Piano Scholarship Competition (Nordman Prize), Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competitions in 2018 and 2023, 2023 Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT (first prize), and 2022 Manhattan International Piano Competition for Young Artists (gold medal).
Jun has participated in music festivals including the International Summer Academy at Mozarteum, Aspen Music Festival and School, Piano Academy Eppan, the Chicago International Music Festival, and Piano Texas. He has taken masterclasses with eminent musicians such as Yoheved Kaplinsky, Arie Vardi, Andrea Bonatta, Matti Raekalio, Lilya Zilberstein, Julian Martin, Mikhail Voskresensky, Akiko Ebi, and Jerome Lowenthal.
